Original destinations for the summer – Mexico

It’s almost the end of the holidays, don’t let it end without taking a trip to one of these three original summer destinations. Pack your bags and choose one of these recommendations for different budgets and tastes.

“The longer the days and the shorter the nights, the sun shines, the warmer it gets”… This summer song from the cartoon Phineas and Ferb reminded me of my childhood when I longed for summer vacations. It is the time of year that I have the most memories from and where I lived the most adventures. Does it happen to you? I’m sure you do, that’s why we can’t miss the opportunity to continue creating experiences even as adults.

When preparing this article, I was unable to decide among countless options. Mexico is a country with a great diversity of original summer destinations, beaches, forests, jungles and cities, ideal to visit at this time of year.

Visiting original summer destinations in late August and September is an excellent strategy to get reasonable prices, since these dates are considered low season. In contrast to the prices that you can access between June and the beginning of August, when more visitors come to tourist destinations.

Three original destinations for the summer

Cool cenotes in Riviera Maya

One of the biggest attractions in the Riviera Maya is the cenotes, deep water wells where you can cool down and cleanse yourself as the Mayan ancestors did. Going on a cenote route is an economical option when visiting the Mexican southeast, away from the most expensive and commercial experiences, such as theme parks.

Recommendations:

  • Rent a car to get around without problems
  • Do not use sunscreen when entering a cenote
  • Do not eat or drink, outside or inside the cenote

Experiences:

  • Skull Cenote: It is a semi-open cenote with crystalline water with a main opening and several small ones, ideal for the whole family. It has a changing room, bathroom and lounge area.
  • Crystalline Cenote: It is a large cenote surrounded by a mangrove swamp, with lots of vegetation, transparent water and impressive rock formations. They offer lockers, showers and bathrooms for hire.
  • Blue Cenote: It is a large and well distributed cenote. One of the most important features is that you will constantly swim surrounded by fish, a beautiful experience. I recommend wearing water shoes because there are many rocks under the water that can hurt you.

Bohemian experience in Todos Santos, Baja California Sur

It is one of my original favorite summer destinations. It is a peculiar small town, located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in the municipality of La Paz, Baja California Sur. Ideal for people who want to rest, enjoy the sun and the combination of desert and beach. Its bohemian, hippie and super cool style makes Todos Santos a real jewel in Baja Sur, located just 85 kilometers from Cabo San Lucas.

Recommendations:

  • Rent a car from Los Cabos or La Paz
  • It can also be reached by public transport from La Paz or Los Cabos
  • Have a big budget, because the costs are high

Experiences:

  • Enjoy the wonderful view that the road offers, on one side you will find the desert and on the other, the impressive sea.
  • Visit El Pescadero, a cool coastal town with a hippie vibe and beaches for surfing.
  • Get to know Punta Lobos beach, climb the cliffs (only if you are an expert hiker) and enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in Mexico.
  • Visit Hotel California (although The Eagles say they didn’t write the song there).
  • Enjoy the artistic works on display in the many galleries.
  • If you like solitude, visit Playa San Pedrito, a virgin spot away from the hustle and bustle.

Enjoy the original destination of the summer, give the role of San Luis Potosí

San Luis Potosí is a state located in the center-east of the Mexican Republic. It is one of the places with the greatest history in our country and has a great diversity of cultural and natural experiences. The state capital is the perfect place to rest from the hustle and bustle of the big cities and relax, without a doubt one of the best original destinations for summer.

Recommendations:

  • Look for a central location to enjoy the destination on foot.
  • If you have more time when visiting the capital of San Luis Potosí, take a trip to the Huasteca Potosina.
  • know these five must-sees of San Luis Potosí

Experiences:

  • Meet the San Luis Potosí Arts Center, formerly the state prison, and you will be able to learn a little about its history.
  • Visit The Leonora Carrington Museumyou will observe artistic pieces by the painter and sculptor, as well as learn about relevant aspects of her life.
  • Walk through the historic center of the city and visit the Temple of Carmen, a Baroque and Churrigueresque building that you will love.
  • Have a chela or a forte in a canteen in the city centre.
  • Get to know the town of Armadillo de los Infante, just half an hour from San Luis Potosí, perfect for relaxing.

Don’t let the summer of 2022 pass without creating an experience like no other. Mexico has thousands of tourist destinations, for different tastes and budgets. Visit the websites of airlines, hotels and service providers to take advantage of their low-season offers and discounts. There is no better trip than the one where you get the most out of your money and time.
