Cayo Guillermo – Cuba

Cayo Guillermo or Key William as Cayo Coco located in the province Ciego de Avila.

Of all cuban keys Cayo Guillermo is one of the smallest, with only 18 kilometers of land.

However, Cayo Guillermo falls in love with everyone who spends a vacation on its 5 kilometers of beaches. The most famous beach in Cayo Guillermoas you can see in the photo is El Pilar, in honor of the writer Ernest Hemingway, whose yacht was named, which the best beach in Cayo Guillermo, “El Pilar”. Pilar Beach is characterized, like all Caribbean beaches in Cuba and especially in the Keys, for its crystal clear water and warm temperature. The water is framed by beautiful sand dunes up to 16 meters high, which are also surrounded by the exuberant floral variety of Key. It also has a diving center to enjoy the seabed through the crystal clear water. The palm trees that line the beaches reach up to 15 meters in height.

The flower variety of Cayo William, consists mainly of almagicos, juniper and mahogany. within which can be found seedlings, mahogany and juniper.

Cayo William is the perfect balance between tourism infrastructure and paradise practically virgin. There are four first-class hotels, animation and entertainment that allow you to spend your vacation comfortably and at the same time in an environment that has hardly been changed by humans. Boat trips, snorkelling in coral reefs and lunches on the open sea are some of the options.

There is a train that goes through the hotels and the most important places in Cayo Guillermo. The train runs approximately every two hours, so we recommend that you ask your hotel for the timetable. The stops are Sitio La Güira (typical house of the indigenous people of the Keys), La cueva del Jabalí and Playa Flamencos.

Cayo Guillermo is connected to Cayo Coco by a road. It is connected to the mainland by a causeway across the sea from Turiguanó, north of Ciego de Ávila. Turiguanó is famous for the trout that live in the lagoons, and for the beautiful rural landscape of the area.
